I had such an awesome time reading this book! It was fun and witty with tons of amazing characters and world development. It follows a jade demigod named Teo as he is chosen to be a competitor in the Sunbearer Trials to refuel the sun stones in Reino Del Sols cities. You get to meet different gods and their children as the trials progress and also see Teo start to realize that he may not be so different from the golds, the children of the higher gods. I fell in love with the different relationships showcased between characters and how you explore the idea that you shouldn’t judge someone based on a first glance. I loved the sheer amount of diversity in this book. There’s many different queer characters, characters of color, and also has disability representation which I always appreciate in a book. I had a great time reading each trial and I think they were my favorite part. Each one got more suspenseful and I was literally biting my nails reading a couple of them. The mythological aspect of this was amazing and I’ve never seen such a smooth portrayal of modern things in a fantasy and it really made me feel this could be somewhere I would be. So basically loved the characters, world, and the whole thing. A truly wonderful read can’t wait for this to get the recognition it deserves!
