Right away, I was captivated by the foundational myth. The story of gods, demigods, humans, and stars sets the tone for a story full of rich, colorful details and big questions about identity and power.
Teo appears on the scene with a playful attitude and some important questions about how he fits into his society and the group of other semidiose (demigods) - is he just a Jade, without the power and prestige of a Gold? How does his caring and considerate attitude balance out against his mischievous side? And what is he going to do about the body dysmorphia that leads him to bind his wings?
I can't wait to read on and learn what happens in this round of the Sunbearer trials...
