A sequel that can be read as a standalone
I've never read anything by this author, but I may be inclined to check them out.
I enjoyed the boarding school setting, not something I typically see. There were a number of twists and turns to keep the reader engaged.
I hadn't realized that this book was a sequel to Some Choose Darkness. However, I found that I could follow it, so it could be read as a standalone novel.
There are a number of flashback, yet they weren't overdone or annoying. I enjoyed the quirkiness of the characters. The mystery was well-crafted, and the author had a few elements that surprised me, which is definitely appreciated.
There were some places that could've benefited from a tighter edit, as the pace lulled and the writing was a bit bogged down. There was some details that weren't really relevant and were unnecessary (like swigging a specific beer on multiple occasions). Some elements also seemed a bit impossible to believe, but this was an okay read overall.
