OK, that's not fair! Two chapters isn't enough!
Thank you to BookishFirst and Ryan Van Loan for the chance to review the first two chapters of this book.
Not fair! You can't limit the read of this book to just the first two chapters. This is the sort of book that you don't simply ease into like a cold lake on a hot day, but rather you fall into like being pushed into a pool by a jerky friend.
The opening two chapters give the reader the basic background for the two primary characters, private investigators Eld and Buc, written from Buc's perspective. The two chapters tell of their most recent exploits from within the context of a sham trial, which sets the stage for events to come in the book. I was completely dragged into the captivating narrative. The narrative establishes a thirst for knowledge and a willingness to fight for what's right on the part of the primary characters, with Buc displaying the characteristics of the witty investigator and Eld displaying the characteristics of the charismatic diplomat. Compelling characters, interesting story and social setting. The first two chapters did not establish much in terms of a landscape or geographical setting, so I'll be interested to see how that develops.
It left me wanting to read more!
