I don't read a lot of fantasy books. The ones I do read really have to WOW me. I'm not sure that this one would fit that bill.
Just in the sample, it felt like there was too much going on and like the author was trying to throw in a bit of everything one thinks of when they envision a fantasy novel. Some people may enjoy it, but it was just too busy for my taste.
