Immediately drawn into the world and the characters

Sambucina seems to be a sarcastic and tough with a reverence for knowledge and books, a character I was immediately drawn to like despite the fact that she was on the losing side of a fight in the first few pages. I love that the main character as well as side characters (like Salina) seem to be strong and self-sufficient females with realistic flaws and important roles in society. This was not a book I expected to like from the synopsis, but I was immediately drawn in by the dynamic characters and snarky banter between them. I am very excited to see where this story goes and how the characters evolve throughout.
