"The Silent Unseen" by Amanda McCrina, is a historical nonfiction novel that takes place during World War II. I have always been interested in this historical period, as my mother lived in Europe during the Second World War. This novel was of interest to me, because the focus was centered on the Polish Resistance and its ties to Ukraine, Germany, and Russia. Even though I have studied European history, I had very limited knowledge of this part of its history. So, I was looking forward to reading this novel.
Ms. McCrina did an amazing job of making her characters and plot seem quite realistic, which as a reader, I look forward to when reading a historical fiction novel.
Summary: Maria has escaped from a forced labor camp in Nazi Germany, and is heading home to what remains of her village. Upon arrival, she discovers that her brother, Tomek is still alive. She soon realizes that he is also a "Silent Unseen" (a special operations agent with the local Polish Resistance). The novel follows their adventures through Europe.
The novel is an easy read, with a lot of suspense and a surprise ending!
I would definitely recommend this novel!
