I could tell from the first few pages that this book was going to be a tearjerker. First and foremost, I cannot imagine the anguish that our main character "maria" is experiencing as she returns home after being forced to do labor for the Nazis, only to discover that her family has been murdered. I'm really curious to see what happens between her and her brother; I think that's an interesting plot line. Her brother is actually working for the resistance, so I'm guessing this book will be mostly about her searching for her brother and trying to stay safe, with a dash of romance thrown in for good measure.
