I have to start the review by saying when I read this, it was at the tail-end of a psychological thriller binge. That could have had an impact on my lower rating. I did have a problem with some of the time lines and wasn't overall surprised by too much.
I read this for my in-real-life book club and the reviews were mixed from that group. Some people think this is the best psychological thriller out there, however it just didn't have the right shock factor for me. I do think I am always looking for a comparison to my first-Gone Girl- and I always use that jaw-dropping, holy crap, what did I just read feeling that I got with that one. The Silent Patient did not do that for me, but it does for many others. I wish I could go back and re-read this book for the first time and see if my feelings remain the same.
Even though I gave this book only 2 stars, I do recommend you read it if you love psych thrillers...it could definitely be your new favorite!
