The Silent Patient was insane. The fact that this is based on a Greek play made me very interested in finding the original and reading it. I listened to it over a workday and I was so surprised at the twist that I actually yelled “what?!”

I honestly just thought it was going to be another run of the mill thriller where the doctor treats a patient. I didn’t expect any twist at all.

It has taken two days to write this review because I don’t know how I feel about it. There are no specifics because everything is a spoiler. I devoured this novel.

I didn’t like the fact that we are going with the husband denying and getting annoyed with the wife because she had a breakdown because her dad died when she was younger. I feel like I saw that in the last three thrillers that I read. But that’s not Michaelides’ fault. I read too many thrillers in general.

I think the best part about this book was the pacing. It was fast and slow at the same time. I’ve never come across a novel that did that successfully. Until now.

5 out of 5 stars. I would recommend it to anyone who is ready for something different yet familiar and completely engrossing.
