At first glance I'd say Alicia and her husband have come to an agreement, and that she's already set the plan in motion.
But then we get to Theo's little history and I'm curious why the author chose at this early date to disrupt the tale and focus on him. I'm not willing to leave Alicia yet. I want details regarding her current life at the sanitarium. I really don't care about the guy who wants to get in her head because I want to be there. I want to know if she and Gabriel shot the gardener in the face so they could pull a fast one, while he slipped off to do what?
I would love the opportunity to read more and find the reasoning as to why it was written this way. Because I'm thinking more along the lines it's Theo who's constructing a perfect alibi. Alicia is only his partner in crime.
