Unpopular opinion time: this book was just okay. I've rounded it up to 4 stars, but this was a 3.5 star book for me.

For one, I just did not find this story as compelling and engaging as other folks have. I've had more than one person rave about this story to me, but it fell flat in so many ways. To be fair, I likely set my expectations too high for this story based on what seemed to be the consensus that this book was one of the best books of the year. Still, it fell flat.

Also, I had a serious problem with the narrator. Namely, I had a serious problem with the fact that Michaelides chose to make Theo, and not Alicia, the narrator. It made me feel as if Alicia was nothing more but a tragic and doomed vehicle for Theo's story. While this book may be called THE SILENT PATIENT, this is not a story about Alicia.

I can see what other folks enjoyed about this story, it just wasn't for me.
