I used to devour books on forensic psychology until I worked in the field. It has been a long time now so I felt comfortable diving into this psychological thriller. The thriller aspect of it was incredibly well done and I think this debut deserves all the buzz it is receiving. The psychological analysis left me wanting but I did work with a small number of psychologists that focused on transference and countertransference. The tension between psychiatrists and psychologists is a true thing. My small gripes did not keep me from enjoying the story.

The writing is incredible gripping. You are fully invested in Alicia’s story and rooting for Theo to be the one to reach her. I did not want to put this book down until I knew what Alicia experienced the night her husband died. When everything came together for me, I was blown away by the brilliance of it.
