The Silent Patient is a thriller that engages you from page 1. You will not be able to put it down and come back to it later. The build up is spectacular, you meet a woman who has shot her husband and has stopped speaking. She meets with a psychiatrist, but is silent throughout hence the title. You learn little by little as you turn the pages. The “shocking twist” was not so shocking, as I was able to figure out the ending way before I reached it. The only way you can write a successful suspense thriller novel is to keep readers guessing the whole way through with an ending that is not entirely predictable. When I reached the ending I felt underwhelmed as I was waiting for something to happen that I didn’t already suspect, but that didn’t happen. Overall, good thriller, but by no means one of the best.
