This is a psychological thriller about a psychotherapist named Theo who is working with a patient named Alicia Berenson, who has not spoken a word since she shot and killed her husband years prior. This is going to be a super vague review because you shouldn’t know much about this book before going into it. I used to be super into psychological thrillers and after reading that really dumb contemporary, I needed something a little darker and heavier that I could sink my teeth into. I did really enjoy this story. The chapters are super short but make you want to instantly start on the next one as soon as they’re over (which I love). There are a whole bunch of “suspect” type characters in the story and I forgot how fun it can be to try and figure out what really happened in stories like this. I did kind of see the plot twist coming just because my mind was racing with a million different theories as soon as I started reading (and I caught some hints as I went), but it was a really cool twist and made me want to read the whole thing over to catch everything I missed the first time. This isn’t the darkest/grittiest thriller I’ve ever read but it’s very engaging and exciting so I definitely recommend to anyone who is starting out in the world of thrillers. I actually don’t like super dark and gritty books which is why I stopped reading thrillers but The Silent Patient made me want to get back into them! Also with this one I would suggest to try your best not to guess what happens because I think the ending will be more satisfying if you don’t see it coming at all.
