I am hooked on this book. To open a story with a “diary” entry by a character who openly admits to her struggle with words and then commits a heinous murder after which she never speaks again!?! And to wrap the first eight pages in an allusion to Euripides’ “Alcestis” is pure gold. I love the voice of the psychotherapist - the chapters written as his train of thoughts because HE has own history, which makes it all the more intriguing because whyyyy does he want to fix Alicia so badly!? - I love books that keep me guessing the whole time. Just when you think you have a pretty good idea about the twist, it gets even twisty-er! I applaud Michaelides for his ability to captivate and hold readers’ attention. A most mysterious and marvelous story!
