The Silent Patient was written in such a way that even if it never got to the climax or any of the drama I still would have kept reading. Psychology has always had that effect on me-just fascinating to read and learn as much about as possible. So right from the get go this book had my attention.
Then Theo’s personal life starts getting dramatic-his wife is maybe cheating on him, he could just be paranoid though. When he follows her she really goes to see her friend and not some mysterious lover. Surprisingly we don’t see that this affects his work...until it does.
Theo has these strange dynamics with his coworkers and often they are in the wrong which is why the ending surprised me so much I think. Plus the way it’s set up had me thinking 3 different endings:the brother in law did it, the best friend did it, the old doctor did it. All were guilty of their own dirty secrets but none of them were what I was thinking, and the big twist was different still.
Fantastic read. I can’t wait to see what Mr Michaelides does next because after this awesome debut novel I WILL be reading the next one.
