One hot night, Gabriel Berenson is found shot to death in his London home. His artist wife, Alicia, is found near him, her wrists slit. She recovers from her injuries, but refuses to speak. Several years later, psychotherapist Theo Faber, newly hired by the Grove, a London psychiatric hospital where Alicia is being treated, is determined to work with her. Theo's obsession with Alicia is obvious from the beginning, but the reader assumes it's merely professional interest. While Theo freely admits he is damaged, too, the reader begins to suspect how deep his wounds go as the story unfolds.

This psychological thriller will shock most readers with its unexpected outcome. Really well written, with Gothic undertones.
