This is a book you will not want to put down. I read this one in one sitting!
Theo is a psychotherapist who has an odd goal to work at a mental health facility, The Grove. He has a fascination with Alicia Berenson; a famous artist convicted of murdering her husband. She has not spoken a word since it happened. Alicia is being housed at The Grove, and Theo has an obsession with being given the opportunity to help Alicia and uncover what happened to make her completely silent since the murder.
The book moves quickly, and is told in the past and previous POV’s of Theo’s life as well as some of Alicia’s diary. The mystery keeps you engaged until the very end, with many shocking turns and twists and this slow build up to reveal what happened. The chapters are short, which really just pushed me to finish the book even quicker with the “just one more chapter” mentality.
I don’t want to divulge too much as the mystery of this one really pushed me to want to read it. I will say, I did not see the ending coming at all; which is always what makes me love a book like this.
The writing in this book is phenomenal, especially for a debut novel. I would definitely pick up more from Alex Michaelides again!
