This book has gained a lot of buzz as a 2019 Book of the Month finalist for book of the year. I have seen a lot of comments and posts about this book among book clubs and book forums.

The novel starts with a diary entry from Alicia Berenson. She admits that she feels uncomfortable writing in the dairy but she hopes that it might help her overcome her admitted depression. She aims to keep the depression a secret from her husband, but he notices right away and encourages her to write about what is going on.

She writes about how much she loves her husband, to the point that it "threatens to overwhelm her." Then she stops and says that she doesn't want to write any "crazy thoughts" in this diary.

This drew me in as a reader. I want to know more about the main character and what crazy thoughts she has.
