Great Concept, But Predictable

I loved the overall concept of this book; the idea of a troubled therapist trying to solve the murder his now non-verbal patient has been accused of kept me interested throughout. We got some great insight into Theo’s mentality as we slowly learned Alicia’s story, which added an interesting layer to what otherwise could have been a formulaic novel. I also thoroughly enjoyed the connections to Greek tragedies and the psychology and philosophy of the narrative.

However, I saw the twist coming from a mile away, which detracted from my enjoyment. If I had been as shocked by the twist as many other readers seemed to be, I likely would have rated the book much higher because my sense of anticipation would have been held for longer. I applaud the author for giving you the clues you needed to solve it yourself, but unfortunately the ease at which I was able to reach my conclusion made the setup that was laid out seem far too obvious rather than a subtle buildup.
