Fell short
This was just ok, nothing spectacular and didn't live up to the hype. That said, it did keep me hooked. I really wanted to know why she stopped talking, why she shot her husband, what she was thinking. Alicia's silence is what kept me reading, hoping something big was coming.
I had a hard time connecting with the characters, I didn't really care for any of them. There was so much information about other characters that just felt thrown in and it weighed the story down. I didn't like the ending or how anything was resolved. Alicia's reasoning just didn't work for me. In the end, I was a little disappointed that the story fizzled.
The writing was good and I'll probably give the author's future work a chance.
