Didn't see that coming
The Silent Patient was a compelling, twisty thriller. The only critique I have is that it was a little slow, but that also felt perhaps purposeful to make the more thrilling moments that much more impactful. It's also hard when a central character doesn't speak! The premise: a doctor is trying to get to the bottom of why a mental patient accused of killing her husband has chosen to go mute. I was desperate to get to the bottom of this mystery, and while I wasn't disappointed, it certainly went a direction I didn't see coming.
Overall, this wasn't my favorite thriller of the year, but the twist definitely had me gasping. The author did a fantastic job setting it up in earlier parts of the story. So it was surprising, but believable.
