There seems to be a flood of psychological thrillers to choose from these days and there are few that I read where the twists and turns surprise me. The Silent Patient was one that did surprise me.
Alicia is an artist and has been silent, not saying a word since her husband was murdered and she was arrested for the crime. The only thing that speaks for her is her art, a piece she did immediately after the murder and before being sent to the Grove, a criminal psychiatric hospital. Theo, a criminal psychiatrist gets a job at the Grove so that he can have a chance to help Alicia and it is no easy task when your patient won’t say a thing to help herself.
Other people have up on Alicia, gave up in the case, but Theo refuses to give up on finding answers.
I really enjoyed this book and the journey to give Alicia a voice again.
