Alicia Berenson has a perfect life. As a famous painter married to a fashion photographer, Alice lives in a grand house in one of London’s hottest areas. One evening, Alicia’s husband Gabriel returns home late from a shoot and Alicia shoots him five times in the head and then never speaks another word again. Alicia’s refusal to speak puts her in a secure psychiatric unit in North London called the Grove. Theo Faber, a criminal psychotherapist, takes an interest in Alicia’s story and jumps at the opportunity to work at the Grove to understand Alicia and her silence. Theo is in search of the truth, and what he finds threatens to consume him.⁣

From start to finish, The SILENT PATIENT is a page-turner. I am picky when it comes to thrillers, but this one definitely took me by surprise. While there is not much action until the end, Alex Michaelides still managed to keep me turning pages like fire. With an MA in screenwriting from the American Film Institute in Los Angeles, Michaelides’s book reads like a movie. Both the dialogue and descriptive writing is short, and to the point, while still including all of the necessary details required to tell the story. Every thriller comes with a few f*cked up characters and THE SILENT PATIENT has its fair share as well. What makes Michaelides’s book different from the rest is his ability to keep his readers thinking about these characters days after they have finished the book. If you haven’t already, I highly recommend picking this one up as your next thriller read.⁣
