Woah. My head is still spinning. I have yet to read Alex North’s The Whisper Man, but let me tell you, his sophomore follow-up is a home run. The story takes place in both the present and 25 years in the past, as it tells the story of Charlie Crabtree, teenage murderer, and the copycat killings that follow. As would be told by my life coach, Stefon, this book has everything: lucid dreaming, bloody handprints, the creepy woods behind your house, and a second hand bookstore.

I especially resonated with the main character, Paul. Paul is the only one of his friend group who escaped the influence of Creepy Charlie Crabtree, and managed to escape his browbeaten hometown to boot. When he comes home for the first time in 25 years to visit his dying mother, the past he was trying to avoid explodes into his present in ways no one, certainly not I, saw coming.

Add this to your summer reading list immediately. You don’t want to “sleep” on this one!
