Overall, this is not one of Alex North's better books, but was still enjoyable in its own right. The story follows a man who is forced to return home due to the imminent death of his mother, but jumps back and forth in time to the tragedy that rocked his teenage years and caused him to leave town in the first place.

The story is admittedly slow at parts, but I'd recommend sticking with it because the end is highly satisfying. The story is told artfully as we jump back and forth in time between the narrator's adult and teenage years. I think some parts could have been more suspenseful, but it was an appropriately creepy read.

The writing style is mainly third person and includes both the man around whom the story centers, as well as a police detective investigating a related crime. I found her back story to be slightly flat and stereotypical in the way of crime stories.

Overall, this is a solid three stars. Enjoyable, but not groundbreaking.
