Up front, I will say that I liked North’s first book, The Whisper Man, better, but this one might be smarter. I really did enjoy it. The definite creep factor was there, but it wasn’t too much for me. That is good, because I am easily scared. I might be dreaming of red hands everywhere and then wonder how much of my dreams were influenced, but that is okay. I guarantee that I would not go anywhere near the Shadows. I couldn’t believe that Paul went back to this town where so much had happened, especially since Charlie Crabtree, the murderer, has never been found. I would just move my mom in with me!
The lucid dreams were very clever and I liked the part they played in this spooky tale. They added an original twist and upped the creepiness several notches.
I am already looking forward to seeing what Alex North has in store to keep us up nights next!
