Sometimes I over-hype books based on plot, the author, or people’s reviews. This one, I over-hyped based on the author. If I had gone into it without any expectations, would I have liked it more? Probably!

What I liked about this one was that it had a super creepy atmosphere. It starts out with a creepy murder, there’s spooky lucid dream scenarios, and there is a psychopathic teen. In my opinion, it started out good, but then quickly started to drag. The two points of view seemed unnecessary to me, and I don’t feel like the female detective’s POV added much to the story. The main plot twist did take me by surprise, but left me confused. The final scenes, although action packed, seemed random and I honestly just wanted to finish the book. It wasn’t bad, but the beginning and interesting premise of the book left me wanting more.

Although this wasn’t my fave, I know some people loved it! I would be more likely to recommend Alex North’s first book, The Whisper Man.
