I read a different book by the same author, The Whisper Man, last year. I liked this book (admittedly I momentarily got this one confused with the other due to similar set ups and covers). So, going into this excerpt, I was thinking of this other book and saw some similarities in the writing style, set-up, and mentions. First of all, I think the cover is really great. I like how the hand reflects back to the storyline, same with the butterfly on the other North book cover.

The strength of this excerpt is in the beginning. The start of this story seems brutal and also perhaps unreliable? Did the narrator have something to do with the harrowing scene described to us in the first few pages? Then we switch to another point of view in the detectives. This is reminiscent of The Whisper Man, and of course, I want to know if we are going to be dealing with the POV of the murderer or the copycat, or the sleuths or someone else? So it's captured my attention and definitely makes me want to find out more about this murder and whatever comes next for the narrators.
