3.5 stars rounded up! After enjoying The Whisper Man by the same author, I was very excited to get a copy of The Shadows. 25 years ago, a group of teenage boys participated in a ritualistic murder. One murderer was apprehended, the other, Charlie Crabtree, disappeared without a trace. Linked to the crime, Paul Adams left his hometown without looking back. Forced to return home to visit his dying mother, it appears a copycat is on the loose. Paul comes to realize his mother has secrets that link her Charlie Crabtree. As he starts digging into the past, Paul's mental state slowly unravels, leading one to question his sanity.

The first half of the book was pretty slow and dragged but it picked up. I will admit that first twist caught me off guard! I definitely didn’t see it coming. Afterwards, towards the ending, I wasn’t too impressed and I felt like the big reveal was lacking something. There were some bizarre moments through the book which may add a creep factor for some readers but I didn’t know how I felt about it.
