For starters I enjoyed this book better than The Whisper Man. Next, I had to do some research and read other reviews to help me understand some aspects of the book....which I’m still unsure of, maybe.

The Shadows is a dark place where things, bad things, can happen. The Shadows is the woods where the main character Paul’s classmate was murdered....

The story moves from present and past flashbacks from Paul. Also, it is told through other POV. This again is my favorite type of story to read but got confused on who’s chapter is was.

Once I started reading it, I definitely got an occult feel from the way Charlie was leading his group of friends through “lucid dreaming” to see Mr. Red Hands. It took me until the end of the book to truly understand what happening in the first half from Paul’s perspective. This book had me confused and shocked after about half way through. It wasn’t until the end that I understand what really happened 25 years ago. I couldn’t believe the ending! I had a completed different mindset the whole through until the final 50-60 pages.

I can definitely say that Alex North made this a book that really needs your focus and attention to detail in the story. You HAVE to pay attention! The ending was shocking for sure 🤯 I would of never guessed what truly happens to Charlie Crabtree. I was very intrigued how the story involved the copycat killings throughout the years. This definitely is something very dark and sinister that can happen and shows how much manipulation one person can have on another.

Are your friends truly your friends or are they using you for their own benefit...
