Good thrill but too many characters

I was excited for this one after loving The Whisper Man, but was left a little disappointed. The story was hard for me to get into as I found myself spending so much time trying to keep straight and distinguish the many characters and their relevance. The publisher put together a character map that helped me keep track of who was who, but it was A LOT of people to keep straight (and so many whose last names could be first names)

The story itself alternates narration between present day and 25 years earlier which I enjoyed as you learn different details and information to help you piece together what is going on. The pacing was a bit slow for me and then the end threw a lot at you and wrapped up quickly. Overall I was surprised by the ending and the reveals, but I feel like by the time I got there I was reading to see what happened without being excited by it.

I still recommend for thriller fans as I think many will enjoy this, and I look forward to more work from Alex North.
