Alex North's The Shadows is an incredible journey of unseen things that go bump in the night. A group of teenage boys test the limits of evil seeking power to control and kill. The leader of the group believes by killing he gains strength to cross over into a separate realm. A gruesome murder takes place on a playground leaving the towns people shook. Twenty-five years latter another murder takes place in the same style. Is it a copycat killer or does something more sinister wait in the woods.
As a killer haunts this small town fear is flamed by the legend of a forest entangled in death. Something or someone evil hides within the forest patiently waiting for an opportunity to strike.
Scene setting character development and storyline are all expertly displayed giving major scare vibes. That feeling remains leaving the reader with a somewhat disturbing feel for about 90 percent of the story. The ending was still very good and unexpected, but it could have been so much more. I did like it and will read others by this author
