First up: the cover - the skeletal hand with the silhouettes is the perfect blend of creepy and descriptive (which goes right along with North's MO - if The Whisper Man is anything to go by). It's simple yet eye-catching and totally unique; you won't get this one confused with anything else.

Right away, we see North's expertise at establishing complex characters and setting an eerie tone. We get suspense, we get loyalty, we get intimidation - right within the first two pages. Plus, the age of our narrator is obvious just from the tone and word choice - it's brilliant storytelling. The bitterness tinged with guilt that will fuel our narrator throughout the story to come is so palpable, and I'm excited to see where it goes from here
