Identical twins Tommy and Ellis were close until Harlow moved to their small town. Now, Harlow and Ellis are inseparable, and Tommy and Harlow hate each other. After Tommy's attempted suicide by swimming in cold ocean water, their hate turns to something else that might just be love. They keep their new relationship a secret from everyone (especially Ellis), but nothing stays a secret in West Finch for long. Meanwhile, Ellis focuses on making the varsity track team as an amputee, Tommy focuses on taking his medication, his dog's chemo, and producing art, and Harlow focuses on saving West Finch from being swept away with the next tropical storm. Saving the town comes to a halt when a threatened bird species decides to make West Finch their home, which attracts protesters, which prevents the jetty from being removed. Ellis starts a relationship with a protester to make Harlow jealous, and The Plan for their future starts slipping away. Tommy stops taking his medication, and everything goes sideways as a storm approaches.
