I am not sure about this for many reasons - I didn’t hate it but I also did not love it - overall I think the ending and lack of arch and resolution or redemption just made it seem like a long ride no where

I guess it is more like reading a journal of three teens like vantage point you see the same scenes and story from different sides but in the end it is just a day in the life no real action or accompkishment just the back and forth of life and being okay with just living and experiencing it all ... now that I said the back and forth the cover and title makes more sense because emotions and experience are much like the ocean they come and go sometimes destructive and other beautiful yet the most confusing is a beautiful destruction ....

I really do appreciate the trigger warnings in the beginning and the time the author took at the end to address mental health and make reference to the hotlines if needed

I also think Tommy’s story is told beautifully and shows how depression and be lived and felt for some I think it was really well done

It held my interest but in the end it was a let down to me because there was no real ending or conclusion but that may also be because there was SO much going on in the book with climate change , suicide, love and relationships, alcoholism, mental illness, Cheating, death, canine cancer, and more - that they couldn’t possible wrap all the lose ends up but also maybe like life and the ocean it holds many secrets and never really ends
