To be honest, I haven't been all that into YA lately. I try, I really do. . . but somehow, the thought of getting back into the angsty world of YA makes me slightly queasy.
This book, though, reminded me what I like about YA. It's well-written, it's both serious and relatable, the characters are flawed and amazing and likeable, the plot is great, the setting is beautiful, and it's just everything you could want in a young adult novel. You get the real, raw feelings of being a teenager again. . . the challenges of self-discovery set against the limitations of being young. . . man, I sound like a grandma. You know what I mean. Of course, it had your usual YA problems. . . drama that felt unnecessary (or easily solvable with some basic communication), relationship drama. . . well, a lot of drama, I guess. . . but overall, this was an awesome book and I'm really glad I read it.
