Unfortunately I had to dnf this book. The premise sounds amazing, the cover is gorgeous, but the execution was just not there.

To start, almost every character in this book was unbearable and just so unlikeable. Tommy and Goose were the only redeeming parts, but the further I got the worse that turned out as well. The first part is good in the book, but there is a jarring time skip that also manages to erase some of the character development as we move into the second part.

I did however like the depression representation, although I cannot personally speak to the validity of it. It could have been handled with more nuance in my opinion though.

Overall, a combination of unlikeable characters and just sheer boredom are causing me to dnf this one, even though the premise was incredible and the cover is beautiful.

Thank you to BookishFirst and the publisher for the finished copy of this book.
