"the Sea is Salt and So Am I" centers around the character of Ava, a young woman who is struggling to come to terms with the death of her mother and the secrets that her family has kept from her. Ava's journey of self-discovery takes her to the small coastal town where her mother grew up, and where Ava begins to uncover the truth about her family's past.

One of the things that I loved most about this book was the rich and detailed descriptions of the coastal setting. Hartt's writing brings the small town to life in a way that makes the reader feel as if they are right there, walking the streets and breathing in the salt air. The descriptions of the sea and the beach are particularly evocative and add a sense of longing and nostalgia to the story.

The only minor critique I have of the book is that the pacing is a bit slow in places. The story takes a while to build momentum, and there are a few scenes that feel unnecessary or overly drawn out.

I recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a good family drama, a well-written coming of age story, or a novel set in a coastal town. It's a 4-star read for me.
