This debut novel explores the relationship between best friends Harlow and Ellis, and his twin brother Tommy, in a seaside town that is slowly falling into the ocean. Harlow is desperate to save her hometown, Ellis is desperate to make the varsity track team, and Tommy is desperate not to live.

I found this novel oddly intriguing despite its odd characters and storyline. There were many things hinted at but never explained, which frustrated me because if they were explained, I felt that I would have understood the characters better and their dynamics. The ending also left me confused and unsatisfied. I am not sure if that was the author's plan, but the ending is what made me give 3 stars instead of 4.

Despite the negatives, the writing was beautiful and flowed easily. I loved hearing from three different POVs, and that none of the characters were perfect, they were all flawed in ways that many people can relate to. Overall, this was a good debut and I look forward to seeing more work from this author.
