The Safe Place by Anna Downes absolutely blew me away. I read it basically in one day! Out of the gate, I connected with the main character Emily. Her life is a mess and she is barely hanging on. Her work life is falling apart, her family life is literally non-existent, and her social circle is extremely small. When she is fired from her current job she thinks she is done for. Until, she is offered the chance of a lifetime to spend the summer in France caring for her ex-bosses daughter. Things quickly seem extremely suspicious and Emily wonders how big of a mistake she made. Downes had me hooked from the beginning and her writing was a well thought out, well executed plot. The characters were developed and the story moved right along. I was surprised at the end and that always makes me happy when I can't guess the ending. I will most definitely read any future works this author puts out!
