Suspense-filled and fast-paced!
The cover is pretty, yet foreboding, with overshadowing that there's more than meets the eye to this place. That and the intriguing back cover drew me in. Once I got into it, I was hooked.
The flipping viewpoints added another element of suspense, as at first I wasn't sure when each sequence was actually happening, in the present or in the past. Emily was a relatable character and Nina was intriguing. Scott was kind of an idiot and not really relatable, but maybe that was the point.
The suspense was a slow build, with more in each chapter. I also liked the Gothic overtones - a house that one couldn't enter, secret doorways and rooms, and the whole premise of "what have you gotten yourself into here?" Overall, it was a good read.
