The Safe Place by Anna Downes is a light thriller that was great for an easy afternoon read. It was a bit predictable, but it entertained and did twist back on itself which was a fun change. I did scream at the main character, Emily, to watch out for things that seem too good to be true. However, honestly, if I didn’t know what I was going to do with my life next and my former boss offered me a plush job on his remote estate in France with a pool, guest house, credit cards, etc. I would probably have jumped at it too.

Yes, this luxurious property is a dream, everything it was promised to be, except that it is so remote there is no cell or internet reception. Emily quickly bonds with her bosses wife, Nina, and their sickly daughter Aurelia, but something is lurking beneath this pleasant facade.

I was never in the edge of my lounge chair while reading this but it did compel me to keep reading to see if my suspicions were correct and how this plot might conclude.
Well worth reading.
