The story is about Emily Proudman. She is an aspiring actress who lost her side job, agent, and apartment in one day. Her former boss Scott offered her another job as a housekeeper in a remote area in French, helping his wife taking care of their daughter. She took the job because she was so desperate.
In the beginning chapters, it was hard to believe that this could happen in real life. Emily was fired because of a simple mistake, but she never questioned it. Also, her relationship with her adopted family was awful. She didn't seem to know how to be grateful. Anna Downes' writing style is easy to follow, and I enjoyed reading it chapter by chapter.
I didn't like that the suspense was for nothing. I expected more from the story. I was hoping for an entree, and all I got was an appetizer.
