Just from these few pages I can already feel the suspense. The description of settings and even little details creates clear pictures in my head. Including the descriptions of the characters personalities and temperaments.
Scott is obviously hiding many secrets, and I’m interested to know what they are. The distinction between Emily and Scott is very stark. Emily has almost nothing, is inept at everything, seems a little hair-brained and nervous. Scott has everything and is good at making things out of nothing. He’s like a predator, watching his prey.
I think this was a good beginning to the novel with a well done setup to a suspenseful story.
