It is not my usual type of book, but I am intrigued. Emily is a struggling actor and temp. She is a bit selfish, a bit entitled, and just a bit too unlikeable for me. But I sympathize with her plight almost immediately up until she calls her mom on her mother’s birthday to ask for money-not remembering that it is her mother’s birthday...so she is pretty shit. Scott is a bit psychotic by the end, but in the beginning it almost seemed as though this would be a romance. The kind where the boss watches his goofy employee entertain a child and just has to pursue her. The fact that it clearly isn’t and that there is seriously something wrong with him become almost immediately apparent. The set up is perfect for any sort of thriller type book.

The writing itself is very good. Emily and Scott has very distinct voices. Emily is very much an English millennial with her slang, whereas Scott is clearly an older, more professional or formal speaker. I really enjoyed this excerpt.
