The Rib King a certain Mr. Sitwell works outside as the groundskeeper of a large house whose owner is struggling to keep afloat. As a show of charity and largesse he has taken on three boys to assist in household chores. These boys are not paid they are in essence free labor. They sleep in a cellar and work late into the night. The arrival of these boys proves a catalyst for emotions and events that Mr.Sitwell had long forgotten. The Rib King is rich in its description of life at the new century. Electricity was new and very fashionable, but like all bright lights,it reveals the shoddy, and worn.
The Rib King is insight into the disparity between the races and the fight to survive. The last scene was quite telling, and the resolve of all the kitchen characters when faced with the fact that their futures were in their own hands,by their own hands together.
The Rib King is a delight for those who love first person historical fiction. I was honored to get at least an early look at its pages.
