I feel fortunate to have won a copy of the RED ADDRESS BOOK. Swedish authors Fredrik Backman and Katerina Bivald are two of my favorite authors . I can now count Sofia Lundberg as another Swedish author of the same high caliber. All three do a wonderful job of developing characters a reader feels he/ she gets to know well with both the short comings and admirable traits which make a person human.
Lundberg’s character Doris is a lady who has led a fascinating life. I like the way Ms Lundberg used a red address book given to Doris when she was young to trigger memories and serve as a vechicle for the reader to meet people who were important to Doris at different stages of her life. From working as a maid in Sweden when in her teens, to modeling in Paris in the 1930s, to escaping to Manhattan at the beginning of WWII, we learn the intriguing events of her life. Through flashbacks and conversations with Doris’s niece Jenny, not only is Doris’s life revealed, but Jenny is able to come to terms with aspects of her own past that are bothering her. I loved the book and found it hard to put down. I recommend the book highly and look forward to reading more by Sofia Lundberg.
