"I'll give you my memories. They're the most beautiful thing I have." "I didn't want to die with everything in my head. The knowledge that all my memories would be lost with me was too painful." So begins the story of Doris, who is 96 years old and is looking back through an address book her father gave her for her 10th birthday. Told in dual timelines from past to present as Doris recalls the important people in her life whether a good memory or not, while writing it all down for her great-niece and only living relative, Jenny.

Doris lived an amazing life with hardships and victories, love and loss, happiness and heartbreak. Admittedly, this is a sad story, yet so beautifully written, I feel it is a must read for everyone.

I loved what Doris's mother told her as she was leaving home at the young age of 13. "I wish you enough. Enough sun to light up your days, enough rain that you appreciate the sun. Enough joy to strengthen your soul, enough pain that you can appreciate life's small moments of happiness. And enough friends that you can manage a farewell now and then."

The Red Address Book is the debut novel by Sofia Lundberg, and after reading this, I can't wait for what comes next!
